“ I was admitted as a Guild Fellow because of my husband’s benefaction to Corpus. Christopher Colclough was a former Fellow and Life Fellow of the College. Time that I spent in the College, therefore, was mostly in Hall for guest nights and feasts. We also attended services in the Chapel on Name Day and other occasions where we both enjoyed the development of the Choir. The Chapel is also of particular significance for me as it was where Christopher’s memorial service was held.
The objects I chose were two publications authored by my husband because one of his principal areas of research had been gender equality in international education (on which he worked extensively). These two publications were particularly significant; one a book, Educating all the children and the other the 2004 UNESCO Education For All Global Monitoring Report: The Leap to Equality. Although one of the main drivers of these was the economic contribution of universal education to the alleviation of poverty, the issue of gender in education clearly resonates with this project to celebrate the admission of women to the College. Having worked in higher education for the whole of my professional career, the opening up of educational opportunities for women has always been close to my heart.
I have much appreciated the honour of being made a Guild Fellow as it has enabled me to continue a strong connection with the College and maintain some wonderful friendships. I have also been able to enjoy seeing, at first hand, the fruits of Christopher’s benefaction in the establishment of the postgraduate bursary and the acquisition of accommodation on the Leckhampton estate.”
