YI MING ZHONG
(Economics, 2003)
Twenty years on from her matriculation, Yi Ming recalls how quiet and studious she was as an 18-year-old starting out on her academic adventure. She remembers that everyone seemed to know everyone else and that there was always a sense of connectedness and togetherness. "In Hall, it was easy to strike up a conversation with students from a different discipline about philosophy or history, and it was the best way to learn about individual differences from diverse sociocultural backgrounds. We all learnt and grew together through those formative years at university."
On leaving Corpus she enjoyed a career in investment banking, working as an Associate Director at the firm UBS, before moving on to a role in market development at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in her role as Vice President. Having taken a career break to raise her two children, Yi Ming is now returning to academia to pursue a new career, entering the Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Hong Kong.
"With the many twists and turns in life, I have always remembered my years living at Corpus Christi very fondly. I love its oldness and smallness. I think there were just over 80 students in my year. There were five of us reading Economics, and we all came from different countries."
"I still miss the beauty and serenity of College architecture so much. In fact, my husband and I had our wedding ceremony in College in August 2015. The Development Office was tremendously helpful, and the chapel service was immaculate. I am very grateful that I could return to a place so precious for one of the most important days in my life. It was wonderful to hear about all the latest progress from Rachel Lawson's recent visit to Hong Kong. I sincerely wish all the best for Corpus’ future endeavours!"
